Our birth classes have all of the components of a traditional class for hospital birth, with a strong added focus on movement, breath and mindfulness. We believe that understanding how to connect to our body, breath and mind in labor, as well as understanding the birth process and potential medical interventions, sets laboring couples up with the tools needed to make informed decisions when necessary and to open to the mystery of birth with confidence.
All participants of our birth classes can attend an optional free tour of UVMMC Labor & Delivery and the Postpartum Units. Please note, registration for your tour is separate from birth class registration. Please register early - we do our best to accommodate everyone, but space is not guaranteed. Use code BIRTHCLASS when registering for your tour. See tour dates and register here.
Our weeknight childbirth education series takes place over three weeks, giving you the opportunity to digest smaller amounts of information at a time, connect with your partner around the birth on a weekly basis, and form strong relationships with participants in the class.
Our weeknight series includes:
- The “how” and “why” of using movement in labor
- Lining baby up for a straightforward birth
- Anatomy and physiology of birth
- Stages and phases of labor, including the power of pushing
- Connection to breath in all stages of labor
- Massage and relaxation techniques to reduce fear and invite release
